The Playwright’s Process

Instructor: Greg Williams, Jr.

The art of playwrighting is bringing a character’s truth to light through the relationship between text and action. Guided by playwright, Greg Williams, Jr., this three-week journey will explore scripting moments for the stage from monologue to dialogue. This class culminates in a final sharing of work, read aloud by professional actors, and a playwright talkback.

Intermediate Acting: The Tools

Instructor: Frederick Marte

This class is designed for experienced actors who are looking to build on their existing set of skills. Classes will focus on performance, script analysis, scene study, and self-adjustment. Students will also be introduced to effective tools and valuable insight compiled in Dr. Sharrell D. Luckett and Tia M. Shaffer’s book, “Black Acting Methods Critical Approaches.”

Acting 2 Advanced Scene Study for Teens

Instructor: R’Myni Watson

Advanced Scene Study, NVT’s first advanced youth scene study course, is designed for young actors on a professional path and was specifically created to help actors sharpen their scene study skills in a focused, intensive way. In this course, actors will explore scenes in every single class, working toward developing complex, compelling characters that serve the text. Actors will be challenged by the specific material chosen for each class, the instructor, and their fellow students, all while learning to create memorable performances.

Kids Film / TV Acting

Instructor: R’Myni Watson

Our Kids Film/TV Acting Intensive introduces students to on-camera work. Students will learn ensemble building, script analysis, cold reads and audition techniques, short scenes, exercises to teach camera shots, angles, and film terminology. Students will then work on scenes and the camp culminates in a sharing for friends and family.

Class Registration Guidelines & Cancellation Policy

  • Space is assigned on a first-come basis. Registrations must include payment in full. Registrations are accepted after registration deadlines if space is available.

  • If minimum enrollment has not been reached by 5 days prior to the start date of a class, NVT has the right to cancel it, in which case registrants will immediately be notified and receive a full refund within 5 business days. A check will be issued for registrations that were paid in cash. In lieu of a refund, students have the option of applying their tuition to another class in the same calendar year.

  • For those wishing to cancel a registration prior to the class registration deadline, 100% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $25 administrative fee. For registration cancellations received after the registration deadline but prior to the first class session, 50% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $25 administrative fee. As of a class start date, no refunds or credits/exchanges will be given.

  • Tuition is not prorated for missed class sessions.
